Our artist-in-resident Anna Macleaod will be leading this particular workshop and it’s going to be so interesting! In Irish agricultural tradition, Straw Boys and Wren Boys would appear throughout the year at important festivals and celebrations. Wearing elaborate hats and costumes entirely woven from straw and embellished with ribbons and scraps of materials, these folkloric figures appear at gatherings singing and making music. They are regarded as symbols of luck and bring health, wealth, and fertility to the land. This workshop will introduce folks to the heritage skill of straw weaving! You’ll make hats and costumes.
Tea and coffee and treats are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch.
